Tekbot Robotics Challenge 2025

Autonomous waste-collection robot: SLAM mapping, route optimization, QR code detection.

Award - Runner-up

Overview

Autonomous robot built for the Tekbot Robotics Challenge 2025, where the team finished runner-up. The robot maps its environment with SLAM on ROS 2 (Nav2 navigation stack), plans its route between collection points, then identifies each point by reading a QR code.

Route optimization is framed as a travelling salesman problem, solved with a greedy nearest-neighbour heuristic - fast enough to hold the real-time constraint of the contest.

Highlights

  • SLAM mapping on ROS 2 with the Nav2 stack
  • Route optimization: greedy nearest neighbour / TSP
  • QR code detection to identify collection points
